History of Patmore

Our Story

The history of Patmore Water Softeners dates to 1978, when Tony Patmore and his father, Doug, merged their plumbing and electrical businesses into one joint company. The scope of the business changed when they realised there was a need for water softeners in the Ipswich area. This was when Patmore Water Softeners was established.

Patmore Water Softeners became a trusted local choice in Ipswich and surrounding areas for water softener sales and installation, as well as salt deliveries throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

In 1993, Doug Patmore retired, and Tony Patmore set out to make major and important changes to help develop and grow the company. These changes included the addition of a new showroom in Ipswich in 2001 to display water softeners on site and explain their benefits and uses to customers. Until then Patmore Water Softeners operated from a small office and warehouse on an industrial estate in Martlesham.

Since then the company has evolved and grown from strength to strength. In February 2012 a second showroom was opened in Saxmundham and then a third in Braintree in June 2018.

Tony’s wife, brother and three daughters all work in the company, making it a true family business in its 3rd generation.

Today, Patmore Water Softeners remains the leading independent supplier of domestic water softeners in the UK and are proud to offer an unrivalled level of sales expertise and after-care service. With a workforce of over 20 employees covering the whole of East Anglia and with over four decades of experience, we really do know our trade and are passionate, about not only the product, but the service we offer as well.
